Laufey’s Madwoman Video Is a Star-Studded 70s Dream Packed With Asian and Asian American Talent

April 14, 2026

Laufey has released the music video for her single “Madwoman,” and it is everything you would want from a pop moment that has been building all year.

The video, directed by Warren Fu and inspired by the moody Slim Aarons photography of the 1960s and 70s, depicts a sun-drenched gathering at a glamorous house where Laufey watches a charming but clearly dangerous love interest and decides to pursue him anyway. The aesthetic is all vintage furniture, warm golden light and effortlessly cool fashion, and it works beautifully.

The cast is extraordinary. Breakout actor Hudson Williams, who has become a household name thanks to Heated Rivalry, plays the dangerous love interest. Lola Tung of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu, and Megan Skiendiel of KATSEYE all feature prominently.

What makes the video stand out is the deliberate intention behind its casting. Laufey built the entire lineup exclusively from Asian and Asian American performers, a choice she has spoken about openly and personally.

“Growing up, I felt a general lack of representation for people who looked like me in music and media,” she said. “With the Madwoman video, I wanted to be that representation.”

The song itself is from A Matter of Time: The Final Hour, the deluxe edition of Laufey’s Grammy-winning album A Matter of Time. It is a striking piece of writing, emotionally complex and sonically sophisticated, sitting somewhere between jazz-inflected pop and cinematic storytelling.

The video has arrived exactly when Laufey’s star is at its brightest. She is heading into a major tour, her music is reaching audiences far beyond the demographics that first discovered her, and Madwoman positions her as an artist fully in command of her own image and her own story.
