Minecraft fans, this one is for you. The world’s first fully immersive Minecraft theme park land has been officially announced, and it is coming to Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London, opening in 2027.
Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios made the announcement at the virtual fan event Minecraft Live, revealing that Minecraft World will be built at the Surrey theme park as part of a $70 million investment in the site.
The land will feature a world-first Minecraft-themed coaster, interactive adventures, block-built playscapes and themed retail and dining. Exact details of the individual attractions are still being kept close to the chest, but the scale of the project makes clear that this is not a small addition.

Chessington World of Adventures is already one of the most popular family theme parks in the UK, and the addition of a Minecraft land is likely to push it to an entirely new level of demand. The park is just 35 minutes from London Waterloo by direct train, making it an accessible day trip for millions of people across the south-east.
The original Super Mario Bros. Movie proved how powerfully gaming franchises can translate to the real world when done well, and Minecraft, with its 170 million monthly active players and near-universal name recognition among anyone under 30, is arguably the single most well-positioned gaming brand on the planet for exactly this kind of expansion.
A new Minecraft film is also set for release this year, meaning the franchise is about to be bigger than ever in popular culture right as the theme park build begins. The park is expected to open to the public in 2027.
